The European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation has published a new brochure, EU-funded research and innovation projects: Business and biodiversity, and TRANSPATH is among the Horizon Europe projects featured in it.

The publication brings together EU-funded initiatives that support the integration of biodiversity into business, finance, and economic decision-making. As the brochure puts it, biodiversity loss "increasingly threatens competitiveness, resilience, and supply chains," and the projects it showcases help businesses and policymakers "better understand and address nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities." Spanning finance, governance, value chains, and decision-support tools, the featured projects illustrate how the European Green Deal and the EU's competitiveness agenda can jointly drive innovation, resilience, and nature-positive economic transformation.

TRANSPATH among the projects driving business transformation

TRANSPATH is listed in the brochure's cluster on business models, value chains, and sectoral transformation, alongside projects including BioValue, Biotrails, BIOTraCes, DAISY, TC4BE, and others.

The brochure highlights TRANSPATH's work identifying the leverage points, policy interventions, and innovation pathways that can help organisations move toward more sustainable economic systems. It points to the project's engagement with stakeholders across Europe, Africa, and Latin America to examine how production, consumption, trade, and governance patterns interact with  and can be realigned to support both biodiversity and climate goals. 

This work is feeding into practical toolkits and governance approaches intended to help steer value chains toward biodiversity-positive outcomes.

A milestone as the project nears completion

The recognition comes as TRANSPATH, coordinated by Wageningen University and running from November 2022 to October 2026, approaches the end of its four-year research programme. It follows a period of intense dissemination for the project, including its recent policy workshop and appearances at the World Biodiversity Forum and the Transformative Change for Biodiversity conference in Brussels earlier this year.

By including TRANSPATH alongside dozens of other Horizon Europe initiatives, the Commission's brochure underlines the project's contribution to a growing evidence base connecting biodiversity action to business resilience and competitiveness, reinforcing how EU-funded research is translating into practical guidance for businesses and policymakers navigating the transition to a nature-positive economy.
